🧵 Thursday Thread: Someone has a 41-year WIP…

Happy Friday Eve Reader!

This week’s video is all about how I’m organizing my WIPs so they actually keep moving.

Last week I asked how old your oldest WIPs were… and apparently, I’m in very good company.

Kim has a 41-year-old hand-pieced sampler that only needs binding.
Dorothy has a 15-year-old table topper—even though she doesn’t have the table anymore (honestly, I could see that happening to me).
Martha started a quilt in 1998 that still needs quilting.
Evelin also has a 15-year-old quilt waiting its turn.

So apparently letting projects “marinate” for a few years—or decades—is a perfectly normal part of quilting. But as you know, I've been trying to change that this year and actually move some of my WIPs forward!

In this week’s video, I’m showing the simple box system I’m using to keep my WIPs organized so they don’t disappear into the sewing room abyss.

But now I’m curious…

How do you store your WIPs right now?

Are you:

• neatly organizing them in project bins
• stacking them somewhere in your sewing room
• rediscovering them years later stuff in a bag?

Hit reply and tell me — I love hearing your systems (or lack of them).

If you’re trying to make progress on your WIPs this year, that’s exactly what we focus on inside The Quilter’s Clubhouse.

Community Spotlight

Right now our Clubhouse members are tracking 274 WIPs… and 15 have already been finished this year. Brenda B. finished up this beauty this week! I love the teal and black! This was her second WIP finish of the year! WOO HOO! This was a pattern from Pat Sloan - March block a day 2025 free pattern! Great job Brenda!

Finished a quilt recently? I’d love to celebrate it!

Quilt tops, finished quilts, or even a long-awaited WIP finish — I’d love to see them!

Hit reply and send a photo of your finish — I may feature it in an upcoming Thursday Thread or on my social channels.

If you send a photo, include:
• your first name
• where you're from (optional)
• the pattern you used (if there is one)
• any details you'd like to share

By sending a photo, you’re giving me permission to share it in the newsletter or on social media unless you tell me otherwise.

Sewing Room Update

A couple weeks ago I shared with you I was going to work on this cute bear block. The company I work for makes baby quilts when expecting your first child, and their co-workers contribute a block. I am making the block for a co-worker as his contribution to the quilt! However, when I cut the pieces for the 6" size block - some of the pieces are 3/4" x 3/4" - I have NEVER used pieces this small. I got the block cut in our Clubhouse zoom last night. Hoping to get it sewed up tonight or tomorrow. Wish me luck. If you’ve sewn pieces this small before, hit reply and tell me your tricks.

Happy Friday Eve Reader! Well, when I suggested last week, it would be nice for quilting to be more kid friendly, I did not anticipate that there would be people who were firmly against that. First, thank you for all the great email responses last week - every one of them gave me something to...

Happy Friday Eve Reader! Do kids belong in quilting spaces? Specifically quilt shows and shops. I talked about how quilt shows were not particularly kid friendly this week. Even though the video has only been up a short time - I am surprised in some of the feedback I've received both privately and...
